His two daughters Ella (born 1911) and Hazel (born 1914) remained single and lived in the house until Hazel’s passing in 1997.
The Edwardian terrace house contains 100 years of collectibles, 1909 – 1940 furniture, unique architectural features as well as the ghosts of family members, including Mr Herbert Porter himself, who has stayed on in spirit to take care of his beloved home. Your night will commence the Muster point in front of Miss Porter’s House directly across the road from McDonalds King street Newcastle West. It will include an historical overview of the area including Cottage Creek which was the most remote “civilized” point of the township of Newcastle and the house standing on what was known as “Lock’s Paddock – a stonemason’s yard. Learn aspects of paranormal investigating from an intuitive viewpoint. Learn how to heighten your psychic abilities and become more sensitive to the energies around you. You will have plenty of time to explore, take photos and stake out some of the rooms with us and listen for things that WILL go bump in the night! We may even have another “spirit board” session and connect with the ghosts of the house.

This venue has seen it all - murder, suicide, accidents – and all so close to the heart of Sydney!
Three historical wings are open to APPI for this investigation. This is the night for YOU to be the investigator.
History of the Gaol:
Parramatta Gaol was originally built of wooden logs and was located at Alfred Square, Church Street, Parramatta.  In 1835 it was overcrowded and in danger of falling down.  A decision was made to erect a new gaol near Hunter Creek, on a three and a half acre block.  By early 1836 the foundations had been laid.  The building was designed by W Mortimer Lewis and was similar in design to Darlinghurst Gaol.
By the latter half of 1841 the gaol was nearly complete.  At least half was ready to be occupied, so criminals were moved to their new accommodations.
Over the next decade new buildings continued to be built, but the gaol as a whole was not completed until 1854.  There were a few times the gaol was closed, but on a whole, it was operational from 1841 until 2011.
Some notable prisoners who spent time behind its bars are:

  • Ah Chong, convicted of murder and sentenced to death on 14 February 1876. Hanged at Parramatta Gaol on 18 April 1876 at 8 am.
  • Thomas Kelly, Highwayman who served time in Parramatta Gaol, murdered a fellow prisoner and was executed at Darlinghurst Gaol
  • George Freeman - a Sydney organised crime figure and illegal casino operator
  • Paul Wayne Presdee and Ashley Dwayne Sloan, well known for escaping from Parramatta Gaol
  • Arthur Loveday, Peter Leonard Power and Bill Munday
  • William (Bill) Maloney, leader of the Toecutter Gang
What to bring: Please read this carefully as entry is conditional on these items being brought:
1. Closed toe, comfortable shoes are required
2. A torch
3. A cap, in the style of a baseball cap
4. Any hand-held paranormal equipment you may have which does not require a power socket. (not essential)

Conditions:

  • This tour is for those aged 18 or above. Proof of age may be required.
  • Tours are transferable but are not refundable.
  • No alcohol or illegal drugs are permitted. If you are intoxicated you will be asked to leave and will not be refunded.
  • The Government department regulating the use of the Gaol requires that each attendee signs a Waiver of Liability prior to investigating. This will be supplied on the night.
  • This investigation will be strictly regimented and scheduled and no deviation of the schedule is permitted.

A fabulous collection of authentic Australian pioneering buildings arranged as they would have been in the early days of the colony. Come and step back in time to the 1800's and visit this colonial site as it was back in time. With original buildings and stores from our great Aussie past..Learn stories of yesteryear from 2 of the volunteers that work at the village and will also be cooking up us a yummy dinner which will be included in this low price. We have been lucky enough to secure this site for an overnight lock down and are lucky enough to be of only a few paranormal teams that are given this privilege. Some of the buildings that we will have the privilege of investigating will be:
Mitchell Cottage-1835
Mr Ern Mitchell was famous in this area for his work on the Wilberforce and Richmond roads with his bullock team.
Bank of Australia-1836
A fine collection of early banking items can be seen inside the building.
Riverstone Police Station-1891
This tiny building was still operational until 1964
Perry's Cottage-1857
Originally a Bank, then a Tailors shop, Barber and Saddlery. This two storey building is just beautiful to look at in the street with the overhanging of trees nearby.
Wagon Shed
Situated behind Perry's Cottage contains antique and engine powered vehicles
Case Cottage-1870
Once a month the centre wall was removed and it became a dance hall for the local folk.
Cartwright Cottage-1845
Classic example of an early slab construction. Canvas like material lines the ceiling.
Atkins Blacksmith-1862
The Blacksmith workshop was originally sited in Wilberforce.
Stable of the Blackhouse Inn-1819
Adjoining the stables is the 'Jockeys Room'
where jockeys would spend their time before races to prevent outside interference.
Bowd's Sulky Shed-1874
Constructed by Edward Bowd. Now called the Damper Camp located towards the end of the street near the church.
Aiken Hut-1875
Last remaining slab hut in Pennant Hills. Walls were lined with newspaper after the cracks had been filled with clay daub or hession bags.
St.Phillip's Church Circa-1890
The Church played an important role in the pioneer's life, a place to worship and to hear the colony news. Since the village has been reopened, brides have walked through the church and loved ones have been remembered.
Kurrajong Railway Goods Station
Transported to the village following the closure of the railway line in 1953.
The train has been recently restored and will be operational as soon as possible with 3 carriages.
Shearing Shed
Contains a wool sorting table, hand operated wool press and Cooper's hand shearing equipment (still operational). The Shearing Shed is currently being used and many of functions have been held within the shed.
Mangold Cottage-1887
Built by Gottleib Mangold for his family in Garfield Road, Riverstone. Ironbark slab construction.
Kenso Cottage-1880
The home of Jack Griffiths - dentist in the area.
Built in Kensington and moved to Freemans Reach in 1900
Bee Hive Shop-1848
Formerly on Windsor Road on the site of the Bee Hive Inn. Honey produced from local Hives was available. This tiny building is just beautiful to look at
North Sackville Post Office Circa-1890
The postmaster lived in one end of the building
and conducted post office business in the other.
Riverstone General Store-1860
Originally the General Store of Riverstone operated for many years by the Blair family.
Mardsen Park Public School
Houses an interesting collection from gone years.
Quality Stables
Constructed for the 100 mile endurance race. Now contains a collection of early farm vehicles.
Salters Barn-1850
One of the few remaining barns in the area. Barns were used for farm storage.
And the most important building the Oxboro Inn- This is where we will be eating our dinner and first meeting point. You will also be allowed to leave all your personal belongings here as this is the building that I have been told you will be able to have a sleep if you need 1.
WHAT TO BRING!!!!
Please make sure that you bring with you a sleeping bag, pillow, blanket (if needed) torches, all ghost hunting equipment comfy closed in shoes as if wearing any open toed shoes you will be refused entry for OHS reasons.
Once you arrive and parked your car please come and see me (Kimmy) so that I can have your name marked off and you sign the sign in sheet. This is important so we know who is on location and who we will be waiting for before the tour starts.
Now I have finished with all that boring stuff, join us for a fun, spooktacular night of ghost hunting and enjoying some of our true local history. We look forward to seeing you all there. This is only open to 20 places so book in fast!

Drifter Paranormal
Mayday Hill Lunatic Asylum Investigation - Paranormal Muster
Date: Saturday 22nd November to Sunday 23d November
Location: 50 Albert Road, Beechworth, VIC, 3747
Time: 9pm to 7am
Cost: The cost for the overnight investigation, refreshments, and Sunday lunch is $140 per person.
In an effort to give para-unity a bit of a boost, we are in the process of organising what we have given the working title, 'Paranormal Muster'.  Essentially, we have booked the famous Mayday Hill Lunatic Asylum, in Beechworth, NE Victoria (close to the NSW/Victoria border), for the night of 22/23 November this year, for a multi-group investigation.
For insurance and safety reasons, the number of attendees is strictly limited (although we are trying to negotiate higher numbers) so it will be a case of first in best dressed. The event will include the following: Historical tour from Beechworth Ghost Tours, before the hunt begins, investigation of parts of the complex not normally open for ghost tours/investigations, hot refreshments and snacks during the night, and a lunch on Sunday after everyone has caught up on a little sleep – this, of course, also gives us the chance to compare notes and share stories. We have also arranged a discounted rate for cabin accommodation at the local holiday park, although hotel accommodation is also available in the town if that is preferable.

On site security will also be provided to ensure hunters and their equipment are safe from any unwanted intruders.  Intruders from the ‘other side’ will be more than welcome!

OTHER
The School of Parapsychology (SCOP)
This online institution provides a rare gateway to the scientific enquiry into a world seemingly without answers. As you enter the cyberschool gates, you will realise that Parapsychology is a science comparable to other sciences such as chemistry, physics, biology and psychology. By this, I mean within this domain you will come across a multitude of positions, theories, facts, figures, arguments, and, perhaps more so for parapsychology than any other science, controversy. By opening its gates to the international community, the School of Parapsychology seeks to disseminate knowledge, from the basic foundations to the complex discussions, normally only the domain of the enthusiastic bookworms and parapsychologists.
